What is Lifelong Learning?
| ||||
|
Introduction Unison has a long history of both providing and facilitating education and training for members. This provision has not just concentrated on providing the skills to support trade union work but also focused on enabling working people to gain and improve their skills and qualifications and to learn for their own personal fulfillment. UNISON aims to promote lifelong learning opportunities for those who have traditionally been excluded from learning and UNISON Lifelong Learning Advisers have an important role to play in this as part of the UNISON Learning Team. To become a Lifelong Learning Adviser, members must complete the Adviser's training course. Click here for further details or contact Dougie McPhee, Education Branch Officer for further information.

Establishing a Culture of
Learning
In 2002, UNISON launched A Union Funded Project, Establishing a Culture of Learning with partners the WEA and the TUC. The project aims to develop UNISON's capacity to support lifelong learning initiatives, with the appointment of field workers dedicated to developing a network of lifelong learning advisers and union learning reps. The field workers will work closely with branches and will work to ensure the project is sustainable once the funding comes to an end. The lifelong learning adviser training is central to the effective delivery of the Establishing a Culture of Learning project. UNISON has developed a version of the TUC's Union Learning Reps training which is complementary to this course. |
