Who's - Who in our branch

The Branch Officials

Megan Howes
Megan is our branch Secretary and has been with Suffolk Police for 13 years. She has worked in various departments and locations until becoming our secretary 7 years ago. Megan has learned employment law and like Mel, has additional responsibilities beyond our branch, not the least of which is holding a national position on the Service Group Executive. Megan can help with information, leaflets and general day-to-day issues and can be contacted on ext 3517 at FHQ
 

Tim Wright
Tim is Branch Treasurer and has the tough job of looking after our limited branch funds. Tim is a Station Clerk at busy Lowestoft and has been a Unison member for some considerable time. His main hobby is bee keeping and he is currently renovating a house in preparation for getting married  this spring.

The Stewards

Alan Culling
Alan is almost an institution within himself. He has been with the force for over 21 years doing station clerk duties. Alan spent the first 5 years of his service in Felixstowe and the remainder so far at Woodbridge where he still works. Alan has the task of organising the training for Stewards and H & S reps and has been an active Unison Steward for over 20 years. When he is not working, Alan enjoys cycling, badminton and taking off in his caravan for spells on the open road. Alan can be contacted at Woodbridge on ext. 3478

Carol Grimsey
Carol is a Senior Traffic Warden at Ipswich. She has worked for the force for nearly 18 years and has been a Unison Steward within the southern area for 7 years. Carol’s main hobby is enjoying holidays abroad. Please contact her at the Traffic Warden’s office at Ipswich DHQ if you have any problems or wish to express any views.

Nigel Turner
Nigel is a Traffic Warden in Lowestoft and along with Tim represents the staff in that area. Nigel has been a steward for some time now and can be contacted at Lowestoft Police Station on ext. 5190

Barry Trodd
Barry is the Steward and the Health & Safety Rep. for the Western area. He has been a Custody Assistant at Bury St Edmunds Custody Suite for over 8 years following his retirement from the Royal Air force in 1991.His main pastime is video recording and editing on a computer based system plus the odd game of golf. He can be reached on ext.4119

Christine Shelley
Christine is better known within Suffolk Constabulary as 'Tina', she has been a Station Clerk Since 1990 prior to this she was a Coach driver and still holds a PSV licence. She has been a steward and H & S rep since 2001 - She is also on the regional committee for the Eastern Region. When she is not at work or dealing with Unison matters she enjoys supporting IPSWICH TOWN along with her husband.

 

Paul Hyder
Paul works as a Procurement Officer in Central Services at Force Headquarters and can be found in FHQ Stores. He knows all about the supply needs of Police Officers having been one himself for over 30 years before retiring to take on his present job some 5 years ago. Paul enjoys fell walking, collecting antiques and railways, both real and model. Paul can be contacted on ext. 3695

Mavis Hurst
Mavis is now a Station Clerk at Bury St. Edmunds following a long career pounding the streets of Bury Streets as a Traffic Warden. Mavis has been very active within Unison for many years, not just at branch level, but has given up many hours of her time to represent our branch at the Eastern Region. She has helped voice member’s opinions on may issues including the new uniform after sitting on the uniform committee for many months.

Gavin Hamilton
Gavin is our Newsletter producer and has also put this web site together. He has been in the Force Operations Room for 12 years and became a Steward there about 3 years ago. He likes messing about with computers, cycling, old aircraft, golf, photography and collecting die-cast models of Harley Davidson motorcycles! All members of Suffolk Police Support Staff Branch can attend branch meetings, vote and stand in branch elections and get involved in our campaigns and activities.

We are always looking for people who feel they can contribute to the branch and to helping other members. This could be a regular commitment or just the occasional hour or so. We also provide training courses and support for our reps and officers. Contact Megan if you would like to find out more.
