YOUNG MEMBERS’ MEETING SATURDAY, 13th DECEMBER 2003 11 - 2 P.M. UNISON REGIONAL CENTRE, NOTTINGHAM Our next young members regional meeting will be held on Saturday, 13th December 2003. Many of you may have noted that the next meeting was originally scheduled for 8th December. However, following the success of holding our recent meetings on a Saturday and with the chance of doing a spot of last minute Christmas shopping in Nottingham, the Chair and Karen Holloway have agreed to alter the date as detailed above. The UNISON Regional Centre has ample car parking on a Saturday (the car park is accessed via Vivian Avenue off Sherwood Rise) and you can contact Karen for travel details for those using public transport. The meetings are very informal and relaxed so if you’ve never been to a UNISON meeting before and are considering attending there is nothing to worry about other than getting to the meeting we will even provide a buffet lunch to keep you going. If you want to find out more about UNISON, would like to have an input on what we, as young members, should be doing in 2004, or just want to meet other young members then why not come along? The meeting is open to Branch Young Members’ Officers and any young member who has a willingness to find out more about our organisation. The Forum meets four times a year and our agendas are structured around a Work Programme established at the beginning of the year. If you are interested in attending please contact Karen Holloway by Tuesday, 9th December so she can organise your lunch and refreshments for the day. YOUNG MEMBERS NEWSLETTER – WE NEED YOUR HELP Karen hopes you will have all seen our young members newsletter, Generation YTH. The newsletter is produced twice a year and sent to all identifiable young members within the East Midlands Region. We now need to produce are next edition and would really like to include articles written by young members. Some ideas suggested at our last Forum meeting were:

Tel: 0115 981 0405 UNISON boasts 50,000 young members and rising, one of the fastest increasing young memberships in an UK trade union. Where young people are part of a workforce represented by a trade union they get a better deal, including improved pay and career opportunities, and are less at risk from exploitation, accidents and injury compared to young workers in non-unionised workplaces. That's why our priority is to recruit and support more young members.
