My grandmother, Lillian De Ville Dawson, is supposed to have been born about July 1890 or 1891, however no trace of her birth can be found. At the time of her marriage her father, Henry, was described as an actor.

According to family legend he was supposed to be connected to the Theatre Royal and the Playhouse Theatre in Middlesborugh, but again no trace of his connection can be found.

Lillian had a brother, Alfred, and from military sources he is supposed to have been born in Willington Quay, Northumberland in about 1892, again no trace of his birth can be found.

Without buying a large number of unconnected certificates it is difficult to know how to discover their birth details
