This area is the product of over eleven years of research into both mine and my wife's family history. Research into my family history has been painfully slow. With a name like Smith the paternal line is always going to be fraught with difficulties and as I live in Essex and my father was born in County Durham the opportunity for research into original documents is limited and so very little progress has been made in establishing my paternal line.

I have had more success with my maternal line, as they hail from Suffolk. It is also fortunate that on this side there is a more uncommon name, BRADLAUGH, which has proved to be quite interesting, the other half of the line is a Suffolk branch of the SMITH name from around the Leiston area.

The Essex families are all on my wife's side and the most numerous name in the database is FARROW and variants. Again I encounter the SMITH surname. I know that SMITH is a common name but in my research I have encountered the name in three different branches.

At present there are nearly 3,300 individuals in the list and the links on the left lead direct to some of the principal names. In all there are over 600 different surnames and therefore the only complete list is in the main index.

Tha Main Index will lead to a full index of all the people in the file, at the moment it has not been possible to split the index into the various Counties of origin.
