Joining UNISON
Most people join a union because they want protection at work - help with pay and conditions of service, legal or health and safety advice or representation in case things go wrong at work. That's what we're here for. UNISON negotiates on pay and working conditions at every level - local, regional and national.

Speak in UNISON
The University of Plymouth Branch of UNISON is the recognised trade union for administrative, professional, technical and clerical staff in the University.

Branch representatives are elected by fellow workers and are there to help and advise at a local level to represent your interests. UNISON can also offer many other benefits and services.
-if you want to be heard, speak in UNISON!

Once you have joined UNISON you have full access to representation and benefits offered by the union - but please note the following about legal representation.

Legal representation : Under UNISON rules a member must have been in membership of the union for at least 13 weeks prior to the member knowing that she/he had need of legal assistance and seeks legal assistance from the Union.  This is because some members could join simply to resolve a current problem, only to resign from the union immediately following a resolution which could have taken up vital and expensive resources from the Branch, Region and legal department.  This would be unfair to the rest of the membership.

UNISON also offers you:

  • Excellent legal services at work and in the home.
  • Education and training advice and courses leading to vocational and professional qualifications.
  • A colour magazine sent to your home four times a year; a fortnightly newspaper for our stewards and activists and a full range of publicity.
  • Pensions advice and welfare services as well as certain benefits guaranteed by our rulebook.

Membership officer Lynne James deals with all the paperwork enabling you to join UNISON.   Lynne can send you an application form, or you can ask any of the Executive Team. Or you could download a joining form from this website.  As soon as you complete and return the form you will enjoy the full coverage and benefits of UNISON.   After joining, you will be sent a letter of welcome and confirmation that you are a member of the University of Plymouth Branch.

If you want to join UNISON or would like more information about joining, contact our membership officer at [email protected]  or give her a ring on 01752 233178.  Join us today and make sure you and your family have the protection and support you need now and for the future.
