Branch Chair Health & Safety Officer

My role is to:

  1. Preside at all meetings of the branch and branch executive committee.
  2. Ensure that business is properly conducted.
  3. Advise the branch officers and branch committee in respect of matters relating to procedure and interpretation of rules.
  4. Ensure that officers work as a team.

Our role is to:

  1. Take responsibility for the health and safety of the branch office and staff.
  2. Organise information held by the branch on health and safety.
  3. Organise regular meetings, at least two annually, of safety representatives and co-ordinates the ongoing activities of representatives.
  4. Advise the branch committee on health and safety issues and recommend policies and priorities.
  5. Following consultation with Convenors, reports on health and safety issues at branch meetings, branch committee meetings and annual meetings.

My role is to:

  1. Convene and attend all meetings of the branch and branch committees and prepare agendas in conjunction with the Chairperson.
  2. Arrange for the minutes of meetings of the Branch Executive Committee and the branch to be kept in a proper manner.
  3. Arrange for branch records to be kept in a proper manner.
  4. Liaise with Convenors to co-ordinate branch activities and to convene regular meetings with them.
  5. Work in conjunction with a branch organiser or other officials as may be appointed.
  6. Co-operate with Headquarters in keeping accurate and up to date membership records.
  7. Communicate with members of the branch.
  8. Communicate with Regional Office and Headquarters on behalf of the branch.
  9. Ensure that the branch is aware of opportunities to participate in the activities of the wider union.
  10. Support and encourages the stewards in the branch on an individual and collective basis.

My role is to:

  1. Conduct the branch's financial business and keep accounts in accordance with the rules of Unison.
  2. Provide reports on the financial position of the branch to the branch committee via the Finance Sub-Committee.
  3. Prepare the annual audited statement of accounts of the branch immediately after 31 December each year.
  4. Ensure that all financial returns required by headquarters are completed and returned by the due date.
  5. Ensure that funds of the branch are kept in a bank approved by the branch committee and that no financial liabilities are incurred or payments made except under the special or general authorisation of the branch committee.
  6. Keep a debtor and creditor account and ensure that all monies collected by the branch in support of local industrial action are accounted for in the books of the accounts.
  7. Advise the Branch Officers and Branch Committee in respect of matters relating to financial management and appropriate expenditure.
  8. On retiring from office, hand over to her/his successor or the branch chairperson books (after being duly audited), papers and cash belonging to the branch.

Welfare Officer

  1. Make contact with members/retired members who are known to be ill or need help.
  2. Advise and make members aware of welfare services, legal aid and welfare benefits and provides the necessary support. 
  3. Process welfare claims.

Best Value Officer Labour Link Co-Ordinator

  1. Advise the branch and branch committee in respect of matters relating to best value issues
  2. Co-ordinate the working of branch representatives on service review panels including the collation of reports from each representative for submission to the Best Value and PFI Working Party.
  3. Produce a newsletter to inform branch members of the activities of the branch regarding Best Value.
  4. Co-operate with Regional initiatives.

Information Technology Officer Retired Members Secretary

My role is to:

  1. Assess and discusses information technology requirements to facilitate branch officer and officers/staff/members.
  2. Prepare tenders and reports, quotes and technical details to the branch committee, ensuring best value to the branch.
  3. Update software and hardware as necessary.
  4. Appraise the branch committee of information technology developments and advances.
  5. Co-ordinate the backing up of all computer data and apply the Data Protection Act requirements on behalf of the branch.
  6. Ensure that certificates and licenses pertinent to hardware/software are complied with.
  7. Co-ordinate computer training for the branch committee and staff, in liaison with the Education Officer.

  2. Keep accounts of money spent on behalf of the group and reports to the branch annual meeting.
  3. Attend meeting of the branch committee.
