I have had a long career as a local authority planner, starting in Amersham, Bucks, in December 1960, and moving on to Hatfield and Hemel Hempstead New Towns, in the Home Counties. After that, I worked in the East Midlands and North Wales, returning to Nottinghamshire in 1974. From then until my early retirement in 1993, I worked in the Planning Department at Charnwood Borough Council in Leicestershire, as an Area Planning Officer.
After this, I did a lot of work for Planning Aid in the East Midlands, but gave this up after moving north for other voluntary projects where my abilities and skills seem to be be more appreciated. I hope to get involved in community planning projects - in the meantime here are some pics of me as a planner 'doing my duty' in flamboyant style, over the years....
Mountsorrel Conservation Area in the mid 70s! I did a lot to protect the historic environment, serving building preservation notices and being told off for it by over-worked Government officials while loving my 2cv and growing large beards....!
