Mr Roy Hudd, Actor, Comedian & Entertainer

President of the British Music Hall Society

& King Rat of the Grand Order of Water Rats for 2000

"The music hall and pantomime are the two truly British inventions

in the field of light entertainment. Music hall, its songs and jokes mirror

the life of the British perfectly from round about 1850 to the 1920's.

The lives of its singers and actors are as fascinating as the songs and jokes.

Unlike the legitimate theatre the music hall is very badly documented

and work like that of Mike Casselden's is invaluable."

The British Music Hall Society works tirelessly to support the culture and history of music hall and light entertainment. Members receive a quarterly journal 'The Call Boy' and anyone interesting in supporting their work and joining should write to the Membership Secretary, Howard Lee, at Thurston Lodge, Thurston Park, Whitstable, Kent. Membership subscriptions are currently £15 UK & £16 overseas, payable 31 January annually. Please send a self-addressed and stamped envelope with all subscriptions. Howard may be contacted via [email protected]
