general bio stuff | favourite things
my most favourite of this stuff is paid homage to in fandom, but here are the lists that sum up my pop-culture loving... MUSIC see the tunes TELEVISION Sex and the City - one of the funniest, most innovative, most ground-breaking shows ever made. These women have changed lives! Bremner, Bird and Fortune - no one is safe! Viciously satiric and on the ball, this isn't just comedy with a conscience, it's more insightful and relevant than any other topical news show on television. The Simpsons - has been a favourite for the longest amount of time. Artistic depth goes hand-in-hand with the sharpest observations. The original and best. Grand Designs - I love architecture and seeing people's often crazy, always ambitious designs for their own home being wrought into life is a great way to spend an hour. ER - consistently slickly-made, provocative, relevant and highly exciting. Awesome! Family Guy - more random, saucy and anarchic than The Simpsons, and therefore often funnier, this has fast become a TV staple. any of the Location programmes - Kirsty and Phil RAWK! Who'd have thought buying houses could be so engaging? Buffy - man, I love this show, it was always so engaging, witty and damn moving! I will always be a Buffy fangirl. Friends - I grew up with them. They're my friends! Utterly addicted. FILM The Lord of the Rings trilogy - the biggest independent movies ever made, Jackson's three are just groundbreaking, heart-wrending, awe-inspiring stuff. And don't buy his theatrical release fandom - the Extended Editions are far superior films. LA Confidential - slick, gritty and beautifully acted, this easily makes my all-time top ten. The Shawshank Redemption - just magical. Freeman and Robbins are both on career-best form and magnificently supported by superior acting and production alike. The Godfather I & II - wonderfully rich and thrilling... visually, dramatically and emotionally. © copyright acm 2004 |
