Not just that, of course;
there is the small matter of qualifying for the
Annual Reunion
A minor insignificant
trifle of a day on the Cotentin Peninsular, Normandy.
The
traditional formula:
We
take a friday night ferry from Poole landing about 07:00 local
time in Cherbourg;
then
it's off into the inky darkness for a 200km sociable amble round
a pleasantly undulating 200km;
an
even more sociable meal;
a
wobbly ride to Saturdays' overnight ferry [arriving (if possible,
Ian) before the ferry has departed] to land in Poole about 06:00
Sunday.
Sociable
evening meal? Once again the Café du Theatre, the place
we mostly used
for the evening meal on the 2001/2/3/4 reunion. It's able to cope
with
the numbers, and can cater (sort of) for veggies. In 2004 the
set menu
prices started at 18 euros (£13 ish).
Getting
to Carteret without getting lost is no longer a major worry as
some kind person has had signs errected to point us in the right
direction. Just follow 'Route des caps '(when/if you find
them).
Will
M. le Patron in the Au Bon Accueil in Periers be as hapless and
hopeless as
ever? Will the same three drunks be propping up the bar in Quettehou?
Does
the hill out of Quettehou *have* an end? Will the auberge in Benoistville
be
open this year?
2005
dates? Probably the 1st weekend in October
The
cost? Around 35 squid for the ferry, with a place in a four-berth
cabin. Meals and entry to Transmanche permanent (£2.50)
extra...
