Introduction from your rep
Hello, my name is Andre Burbidge and I am steward and safety rep at LSHTM. I am a senior Library Assistant and have worked here since 1991. I am very proud to be a member of UNISON and believe passionately in the aims and values of our union, and indeed trade unionism in general. UNISON is our voice and we must use that voice to maximum effect
Our membership at the School is very diverse, ranging from courtyard attendants, to catering staff, cleaners, secretaries, administrators and library staff. I have always believed that involvement in a strong trade union is the key to winning fair treatment and equality at work.
Current issues we are pursuing with management include : a claim for a harmonised working week of 35 hours for all staff ; revision of the School Safety Committee structure to improve health & safety management ; a claim for honoraria for first aid volunteers. Other things we are involved with include putting evidence to the "What is it like to work at the School?" working group ; speaking at induction days for new staff ; holding periodic events on health & safety and potential members meetings ; regular meetings with management and liaison with other trade unions ; and representing members on the School Equal Opportunities Committee and School Safety Committee.
