The Spirit Jobs, working conditions and Services under threat: We're Defending Workers Rights!
Schools, Refuse Services, Libraries & Swimming Pools, Residential Care Homes, Housing, Computer Services, Clerical and Administrative Services, Cleaning & Catering - all jobs and services now being considered for transfer out of Plymouth City Council. UNISON, your trade union, is heavily involved in discussions to defend your future. Privatisation of more than half of all Council services is a major threat to every job, wherever you work. A meeting on December 23rd heard the representative of PricewaterhouseCoopers tell trade unions that Plymouth's plans could mean job cuts across the Council. The scale of the plans for privatisation is so big that large Private Companies will be interested who already have theirown administrative staffs. They may not need to buy the services of Personnel, Payroll or lSD, leaving huge gaps in revenue for Administrative services. The Privatisation of Direct services Department alone could see a loss of the £1 million a year paid to Central Services. That would mean job cuts across the board.
"Privatisation does not work. We must campaign now to keep jobs and services in-house." Pam Haghighi, UNISON Branch Secretary Cuts estimated at £8 million are set to ravage Council services further this year. Lobby your Councillor now to say "No" to the cuts: Tuesday 25th February Thursday 6th March & Monday 31st March Assemble anytime between 12:30 and 2:30 at the Council House. Bring Whistles
