1.4 Setting user rights to volumes and partitions |
| If you partition your drive as described in the section "1.1 Partitioning the servers' hard disk", or if you add new drives to your server - then you need to set user access rights to every partition or volume that you add. | |
Log on to the server as "root". Run "Server Admin" from the toolbar. |
| In the "Server Admin Logon" window, enter the server IP address, the "administrators" name, and the "administrators" password. | |
| Select "Show Users & Groups List" from the "Users & Groups" icon | |
| Enable the "Show System Users & Groups" button in the Users & Groups List window | |
| Select "Show Disks & Share Points" from the "Sharing" icon | |
In the "Disks & Share Points" window, select the partition or volume that you wish to change. If you have followed the suggested partitioning scheme, then select the volume "STORE1". |
Set the "Owner" to "root" with read/write access Set the "Group" to "admin" with read only access Give "Everyone" read only access
Click the "Save" button to make the changes. |
| A warning dialogue will appear... Click "OK" | |
Repeat the process for any other volumes that you have added to your server. For example, if you have followed the suggestion, and have installed Mac OS 9.1 onto a partition called "Clent HD", then select "Clent HD" from the "Disks & Share Points" window. |
Set the "Owner" to "root" with read/write access Set the "Group" to "admin" with read only access Give "Everyone" read only access
Click the "Save" button to make the changes. |
