1.3 Installing the OSX server software

Installing OSX server software is extremely simple.

However, before installing the server software - you should think about partitioning your hard drive. There are definate advantages to having the server installation on a different volume to the user documents. Read the section "1.1 Partitioning the servers' hard disk".

Boot from the OSX Server RESTORE disk.
Double-Click on "Apple Software Restore"

Install the Mac OS X server onto the partition "Server HD".

If necessary, click on "Switch Disk" until the correct partition is displayed, then click on "Restore".

A warning will appear stating that the destination partition will be erased during the installation.

Make sure you have the correct partition selected BEFORE you OK.

When finished, reboot the machine and remove the CD.

When the machine restarts "Server Setup Assistant" will run. Fill in the details to complete the installation, then restart.

After this "standard" installation - download and install any OS X and OS X server updates - that can be found on the apple web site.
