1.2 Optionally installing Mac OS 9

Being able to boot your server as a Mac OS 9 client could be useful on occassion.

Apple do not supply Mac OS 9 with the server version of OS X, and some server hardware doesn't support OS9. Also, accidentally running the classic environment on the server could unnecessarily eat memory & resources.

If you intend to install Mac OS 9, then you should partition your drive first so as to keep the client and server installations apart. Read the section "1.1 Partitioning the servers' hard disk".

Boot from your "Mac OS Install" CD.
Run "Mac OS Install" from the MacOS 9 install CD.

Install Mac OS 9.1.

Make sure you have the correct partition selected BEFORE you install.

If you have followed the suggested partitioning scheme, you should install onto the partition called "Client HD".

When finished, reboot the machine and remove the CD.

When the machine restarts "MacOS Setup Assistant" will run. Fill in the details to complete the installation, then restart.
