SCHOOL PARTNERS MOVE UNDER REVIEW
09:00 - 13
November 2003
|
Opponents of a
Public Private Partnership for Moray schools will be holding a
meeting on Monday.
Scottish Socialist Party local
branch organiser Sandy MacGillivary said the aim of the
meeting was to give everybody a say on the issue, whether they
are in favour of the proposed scheme or against it.
He
said: "This is the sort of debate which should be held by
Moray Council. They promise public consultation on these
issues but never actually consult the public."
Mr
MacGillivary said he hopes councillors will attend the
meeting, the second the branch has organised about the
issue.
"At our last meeting only one councillor, Linda
Gorn representing Keith, took the trouble to attend and listen
to the arguments," he said.
An invitation was sent
specifically to Councillor Sandy Keith, who until yesterday
was chairman of the education committee. Mr Keith declined,
citing his imminent departure from that position, but said
he'd pass the invitation on to his replacement, Councillor
Alasdair Urquhart.
Scottish Socialist Party MSP Carolyn
Leckie will be speaking at the meeting, which will be held at
7.30pm in the Bishopmill Hall, Elgin.
Ms Leckie, a
former midwife with a long involvement in the trade union
movement, was elected to the Scottish Parliament in May as a
list candidate for central
Scotland.
