MID DEVON UNISON FC - RESULT AND MATCH REPORT !!!

UNISON FOOTBALL TEAM LAUNCHED

The Mid Devon Branch of UNISON was pleased to unveil the new strip of the Mid Devon UNISON Football Club, prior to the AGM in March.

The strip will be worn by the team which has recently entered the Football Mundial -  Cullompton & Tiverton Corporate 6 a side Football League after playing a series of friendly games last season. The new kit, sporting the UNISON logo across the chest, will enable UNISON members to take part in the league and to represent the branch at regional football competitions. UNISON sponsorship of the team is a continuation of the branch commitment to sponsoring social and sporting events for branch members, and which has in previous years included golf, badminton, tennis, bowls and skittles teams.

UNISON members wishing to find out more about the Mid Devon UNISON FC should contact team Manager Julian Thrupp on extension 4958 or by email at [email protected].

Outgoing UNISON Branch Secretary Pete Saunders presents the new football strip to Julian Thrupp, watched by Bryan Waterworth and Steve Garland.

Week 1 - 22nd March  v Underdogs            L     1-3

well well jumpers for goal posts, game of two halves blah blah.... First game of the season and unfortunately expectation out weighed the performance on a chilly Monday night. the Unison side of Roland Broomfield, Steve Haines, Steve Garland, Shaun White, Brian Waterworth, and Manager Julian Thrupp were beaten 3 goals to one in an interesting first game in the Cullompton 6 a side league.

It was a pretty even contest with the scores 1 a piece going in at half time thanks to quickly taken corner by S Haines and a slick finish by Thrupp. However after half time the Unison defence or lack of it! was undone by the pace and shear numbers of the opposition in the attacking half. Goalkeeper Shaun White said after the game " I felt like I was the last one left at the Alamo". Eventually this pressure told and they got a couple of late goals without reply to end the game 3-1 but not without the Unison team wasting a few golden opportunities toward the end!

Roll on next week!

Week 2 - 29th March v My Little Pony        W     6-2

well well what a difference a week makes, before this i think Sven had been contacted about my job! This week the Unison team ran out 6-2 winners in a more entertaining and organinsed team display than the previous week. A good defensive display by Mark H and especially Brian Waterworth ensured a great first win.

Steve G hit his first hat trick of the season with Julian T scoring twice, however there were many missed opportunities which bodes well, but it was nice just to get the first win and three ponts well earned.
