The Moot is held at New Inns in Salop Street Wolverhampton. The venue has a large free carpark at the back of the pub and the venue is free though a charge is made to fund future events etc..
Previous talks & happenings
December 2nd
Yule celebration and Fancy Dress The Moot's Yule celebrations were a smash hit this year with many of the regulars turning up in outlandish costume. A good time was had by all spoilt only by very bad poetry on the part of yours truly! Heh! There was no way that we were going to be able to eat all of the food and so we decided to invite the climbing club in (you will of course have heard of the famous invisible mountains in Wolverhampton no doubt ;-) ).June 3rd Karen's talk - The Altar Karen gave a talk looking at what constituted an altar and a shrine. Moot members came along with various implements from their sacred spaces for everyone to gawp at.
March 4th Steve's Talk - Solitary Witchcraft Steve gave a talk about his experiences as a solitary witch. We also discussed what we would like to have talks about
January 7th Outrageous Tales contest The tales contest was somewhat of a none starter this year. A request was made to incorporate more information for those new to paganism as much of the discussion was very in depth.
December 3rd Fair to say that this was one of the most successful moots held in Wolverhampton. There were lots of new faces at the moot and it was good to see them. Everyone had the opportunity to speak and say what say how they felt about the Yule period and a drinking horn was passed around and every one had the opportunity to honour their path. A simple ceremony which appeared to go down well with everyone.
November 5th The moot has begun to grow yet again. Tonights moot was the liveliest for many months
September 30th The first moot at the Clarendon happened on the 3rd. Unfortunatley the speaker had to cancel so this led to an impromptu talk by the organiser on the subject of Loki.
July 15th
New venue confirmed! Speakers also being arranged! The Clarendon Hotel in Chapel Ash has been contacted and one of the rooms has been booked at a cost of 10 per moot.July 2nd
Changes are afoot! It was decided that we really wern't happy with the Litten tree. The Atmosphere was not right and the drinks too expensive. The next moot will be back at the Moon Under Water. In the mean time various talks will be planned and looks like the Clarendon Hotel in Chapel Ash will be the venue for these. This does depend on the room being available and could become cheep if the room is booked on a regular basis. The Clarendon is also the venue for the forthcoming Heathen Gather. Keep an eye on this page for updates. At the moot we had an interesting discussion about there being a derth of groups in the North Midlands area and that though some of these groups are known of they do not open their doors to new Pagans. It was suggested that this deficit was off putting to the newbies and could put them off Paganism all together. It was also suggested that this was also self destructive on the part of the groups, which without new blood will stagnate and wither. For a more indepth discussion follow the EZbord link to the Pagan Midlands forum.June 4th An increase in last months figures this time however it was difficult to hear what people were saying due to the loud music. This moot unfortunately fell on the second of the two bank holidays for the "Jubilee" and so the hours were shorter and the atmosphere very different. Not sure if this is going to be a long term venue.
May 7th First Moot at New venue! Just Six hearty souls joined for the move to the new Venue as advertised. Though the beer is more expensive we had virtually the entire pub to ourselves and so we stole a corner of it! The subject of debate was the possibility of forming a new group, based on the ideas of Pagan Community. It soon became apparent that there are both good and bad points about such an idea based on past experience of human nature. It was also stated that for many the commitment required was a deterant to many. The other side of the argument was that these problems were not insurmountable and simply required further thought. We'll see what develops in the future.
May 5th New venue! The Litten Tree in Victoria Street just up from Waterstones in the City Centre. This venue is only too happy to attract custom on a Tuesday night and has a function room upstairs which is usually free for talks etc. The function room will cost us so there will be a charge for talks in future rather than just passing round a glass so you'll have to pay on the door. The first meeting there will be on Tuesday 7th May from 9pm. If you want you can meet up with the majority of Mooters at the Moon Under Water in Lichfield Street opposite the Grand Theatre for 8:00pm shortly after 8: we will make our way down to the Linden Tree and probably be there for just before 9:00pm. See you there.
April 2nd 2002c.e. Following a conversation with the Landlord on 2nd April 2002c.e. the moot has had to find a new venue. This happened four hours before the moot leaving little time for me to contact people. As usual I had contacted the venue this morning just after 11am and nothing was said everything was fine. Well that is ok by me we can take our custom elsewhere. For the moot on the 2nd April we will be going to the Moon Under Water in Lichfield Street and will look into finding a permanent home. The May moot will also be held at this pub and people attending will be aprised of the new venue for June.
8th January This moot saw us holding the first of our annual Outrageous tales competition. It went soemthing like this.
I'm recovering from the moot though it is taking a while to get shot of
this headache :-(.
We had a good night last night, spontaneously breaking into the Outrageous
story competition. The stories became wilder as the night went on and more beer consumed, the tales improved as inhibitions were lowered, with Dan
being the winner by majority vote we'll see if he turns up at the next moot. He went away from the evening with a
copy of Spirits of the Sacred Grove by Emma Restall Orr. Well done to him.
Just before Yule we had the local Friends of the Earth drop in and talk to us about the activities that they were up to and a history of the previous campaigns.
More to come as it happens
