Game 1 Dragons 7 - 3 Hurricanes
MVP Magnus Laurenson, Danny Mullay
For the first time this season the more experienced peewee's played with the juniors and all aquited themselves very well. The first two periods were filled with scrappy play, particularily from the Dragons as the juniors tried to win the match by themselves. This resulted in no goals in the first followed by two solo goals each from Jared Deeney and Magnus Laurenson in the second.
The third period was much better from both teams. Kieran Smith snapped up a loose puck in his own half and skinned a couple of Hurricanes defenders before tapping in for the Dragons third, then Magnus added another from a James Nicolson pass. Danny Mullay playing an attacking defenders role for the Hurricanes combined with Emily Garrick to block several more Dragons moves before Magnus scored again, this time converting an Andy Harper centre.
Joe O'Connor played Jared Deeney in for the Hurricanes third but by this time Magnus Laurenson was on a roll. He scored his fifth off a through ball from Kieran Smith and wrapped it up in the dying minutes with a solo goal to give the Dragons a comfortable 7 - 3 victory
Game 2 Dragons 1 - 4 Hurricanes
MVP Daniel O'Connor, Amy Harper
Game 2 saw a matchup of the Girls against the boys. In an open first period John McDiarmid scored for the Hurricanes, tapping in a pass from Daniel O'Connor only for Amy Harper to equalise in a very similar way from an Esme Robinson pass. At the strart of the second period Daniel O'Connor scored a goal of his own finishing off an Alec Watt move.
Amy Harper was finding things difficult up front for the Dragons as none of her team mates were natural attackers but with Alec Watt and Rob McDiarmid providing a solid back wall the Hurricanes attack began to find its way. Cory Johnson worked hard to keep the Dragons in the game but two quick goals from Daniel O'Connor effectively sealed the match.
Saturdays game is at the Clickimin Centre at 11:45am.
