Juniors Dragons 4 - 5 Hurricanes
MVP Magnus Laurenson, Jared Deeney
Alec Watt was treated to a baptism of fire in his first start as goal keeper on Saturday. After only 16 seconds Jared Deeney teed the ball up for Magnus Laurenson who rifled a shot high into the net, stick side. This was followed almost immediately as Jared blasted in a shot of his own high on the catcher side to give the Hurricanes an early lead. Andy Harper and Guy Smith combined to reduce the gap to one late in the period as Guy's shot took a wicked deflection off a defender to give Jonathan Sandilands no chance.
Andy Harper provided the assist from which Ruairidh Mackenzie equalised early in the second, then Magnus Laurenson and Guy Smith traded goals to keep the score level at half time. Magnus Laurenson and Jared Deeney then showed why they are one and two in the points table with two well crafted goals. Despite a late score by Ruairidh Mackenzie the Hurricanes were comfortable winners.
Peewees Dragons 1 - 5 Hurricanes
MVP Kieran Smith, Danny Mullay
Kieran Smith made the difference between the teams in the Peewee match. He scored the opening goal and provided an assist for Amy Harpers second as the Hurricanes took an early lead. James Nicolson scored for the Dragons at the end of the first period only for Kieran to score twice more in the second.
Some robust play came to a head in the third when Kieran Smith received a penalty for roughing, though James Nicolson was lucky not to join him. Despite the power play the Dragons never really developed their attacking game with Danny Mullay defending on halfway and Esme Robinson and Cory Johnson combining well to deal with any plays which made it deep into the Hurricanes defensive zone. Late in the period the Dragons conceded another goal when Danny Mullay intercepted a pass and his through ball found Marcus Nicolson who showed good control as he collected the ball and shot low into the net.
Saturdays game is in Scalloway at 2:00pm.
