Match Report Saturday 16th March 2002

Every blue moon all the hard work put in by players seems to pay off, and that was the case at the Clickimin on Saturday. Several players had their best games of the season and almost all played an above average match.

In the Junior game Blacks took on Whites in a four on four, using the full hall at the Clickimin this gives players plenty of space to move. Ruaridh Mackenzie and Ben Davis were the attacking partnership for Whites and only some questionable defending by Guy Smith and determined back checking from Magnus Laurenson kept them out. After stealing the ball off Ruairidh's stick Magnus broke down the left wing and sent in a perfect pass for Guy to tap in. Ben quickly brought White level with a similar goal from Ruairidh's centre. The end to end action continued and just before half time Andy Harper and Jared Deeney combined to provide Magnus with time to place a slapshot into the top of the net giving Black the lead.

Early in the second half a smart pass from Ben Deeney found Ruairidh with space on the right, he drew the defence and played a perfectly weighted pass for Ben Davis to score. Once again Blacks replied in style with Magnus assisting on Jared's first goal, in only his second game. Up to this point the goalkeeping had been of a very high standard at both ends, Jonathan Sandilands in particular making many great saves which kept the Whites in the game. Steven Stove in the Black goal was also playing well however the next goal was a shocker, with the ball loose in front of the White goal Ruairidh noticed Steven off his line and played a perfect shot almost the length of the pitch to bring Whites level again. The winning goal came off a rocket of a shot from right point, Jonathan made a fine save with his blocker but the rebound fell to Andy Harper on the left who calmly put the ball into the net.
Final score White 3 v 4 Black. MVP Jonathan Sandilands.

The Pee Wee game saw its share of fine performances. Kieran Smith on the left collected a pass from James Nicolson, quickly spun around the back of the net and flicked the ball inside the right post, Steven Stove managed to block the shot but the baall trickled along the goal line and James Nicolson was on hand to knock it in. Minutes later Kieran was more successful with his wrap around shot and beat Steven across goal to score. Just before half time Kieran scored again with a fine solo goal.

Magnus Johnson captaining the Whites team pulled his players together in the second half and the quaility of the defending by Alex Watt and Mhairi McNeill kept Blacks from scoring any more goals. Amy Harper was unlucky not to get a goal for Whites when the ball bobbled around the crease and Magnus himself saw a shot scooped off the line. In the dying seconds James Nicolson also saw a shot cleared off the line and the match ended White 0 v 3 Black.
MVP Kieran Smith.
