Match Report Saturday 26th January 2002

Saturdays games were both one sided affairs, though the Pee Wee games was closer than the score suggests.

To try and open the Pee Wee game up Joe O'Connor and James Nicolson were brought in to lead the attack for Blacks and Whites respectively. This certainly seemed to work and both teams spread the ball wide to left and right. The better attacking moves came from the Whites with Amy Harper and Stuart Sineath linking well with James Nicolson who was unfortunate not to score.

The first breakthrough came when Joe O'Connor drifted away from a play on the right wing and when the ball came loose he was open in front of the white goal and scored easily into the bottom corner. The second half continued in a similar manner though Lewis Jamieson and Magnus Johnson started to develop some promising Black attacks. Lewis caused particular problems down the right wing and was only stopped by solid defending from Alex Watt. The second goal was a very similar affair to the first. Joe drifted into space once again and collected the ball on half way with only one player to beat, a deek inside left a clear run on goal and a 2 - 0 lead for blacks.

The Junior game saw the first taste of the faster and more physical style of play for Marcus Nicolson and Danny Mullay, both of whom coped well. Ben Davis for the Whites was obviously keen to show that he was back to form and quickly linked up with Magnus Laurenson, who seems to have found his ideal position on the right wing, for a classic goal. Antony Okill won the ball at centre field and layed a nicely weighted pass out to Magnus on the right. Magnus took the ball deep right, drawing the defence and cut a pass back to Ben in the slot. His powerful shot beat Jonathan Sandilands high left for a 1 - 0 lead to Whites. Less than 2 minutes later Magnus and Ben combined for the second goal. This time the pass from Magnus came as he carried the ball behind the goal and Ben scored low left.

If the Blacks thought that they would get a respite in the second hald they were mistaken. With Andy Harper, Christopher Storey and Marcus Nicolson finding all their time needed in defence Ruairidh Mackenzie and Kieran Smith were unable to develop any telling attacks. With Emily Garrick and Danny Mullay looking after thair defensive tasks the Whites were able to increase their offensive preasure and it was only a matter of time before another goal came. Magnus Laurenson won a 50/50 ball on half way and broke through a couple of tackles to score a splendid solo goal then Ben Davis collected a pass from antony Okill to score his third and the Whites fourth goal. final score 4 - 0.
