Introduction
3S is a little young to have evolved a proper league/match structure, or indeed to have finalised which particular code of skater hockey to follow. Included on this site are the International Inline Skater Hockey Federation rules. These cover a wide range of match related issues and 3S will use these as a basis for its game play for the immediate future.
The emphasis of 3S sessions this year is skill development. There will be many opportunities for match play as part of this, however incorporating the complete IISHF rule list is inappropriate at this stage.
The Club Rules outlined on this page are aimed at allowing 3S and skate hockey in Shetland to flourish. In some instances they contradict IISHF rules, where this is the case the local club rules take precedense.
Membership
- All players, coaches and physiotherapists must be fully paid up members of Shetland Skate Sports(3S).
- Registrations should be sent to the 3S Club Secretary. A player will be registered once the fully completed paperwork has been received by the 3S Secretary.
- Players must produce their membership cards at each session/game.
- None members will be entitles to attend a maximum of 2 coaching sessions, after which they will be required to take out full membership.
Match/Session Fees

- Any debts or fines accrued by players under the age of l8 years will be responsibility of the player's parent or guardian.
Session & Equipment Rules
- All goalkeepers must wear the designated level of minimum equipment as per IISHF rules. At this time the club has no goalkeeper specific safety equipment. Until such is available either through the club or through personal members provision 3S training will be carried out without goalkeepers.
- In all gameplay situations players must wear:
- Approved helmet, under 18 this must be fitted with a full face cage/visor. ALL PLAYERS wearing spectacles must wear full face protection attached to the helmet and all spectacles must have plastic lenses and the spectacles must be tied with a band behind the head.

In addition 3S recommend the use of:
- Shin/knee guards
- Elbow guards
- Abdominal box
- Throat protector
- Sholder/chest pads
- Padded shorts/girdle
Please note that it is not 3S policy at this time to provide a club pool of items from the second list, or gum shields. Once funds have been raised 3S will be buying the minimum acceptable level of goalkeeping equipment.
- No watches, chains, rings, etc., are to he worn on the pitch. Jewellery and body piercing must be removed or if it cannot be removed must be securley taped over.
- Stick blades must be in good condition and be within the required width IISHF rule 5.8. They must not be used in a damaged condition. But ends, if fitted must be securly attached. N.B. IISHF rules require the use of a but end on sticks. 3S will be keeping this under review.
- All wheels on skates must touch the ground, and if a skate is designed to have four wheels it must have 4 wheels. N.B. Quads or inline skates are acceptable.

- No drinks whatsoever are allowed on pitch. It is a common practice for ice hockey goalkeepers to take drinks on the pitch, however wet floors are very dangerous for both inline and quad skates.
Security and Safety of Members, Equipment and belongings
- It is the responsibility of each player to ensure the security of his/her possessions including kit. Neither 3S or the Leisure Centres can be held responsible for their loss, damage or theft.
- Whilst every precaution is taken by the organisers to make skater hockey sessions safe neither 3S or the Leisure Centres can be held responsible for any injury to persons however caused.
- Players are reminded that Skater Hockey is a contact sport and accidents do sometimes happen and players should make sure that they are adequately protected by wearing the equipment available to them.
