FUN IN THE SUN AT LEIGH LIBRARY GARDENS...

July 11th 1999 saw the first ever Leigh Quest Day at Leigh Library Gardens, a community fun day designed to raise public awareness of environmental issues, and to promote Agenda 21 as a tool for creating a sustainable pathway into the next millenium. South East Essex LETS (Local Exchange Trading System) joined forces with the Eco Spirituality Network and South East Essex Permaculture to present three interconnected stalls themed around CYCLES OF ENERGY...
As well as an instant Permaculture garden, Dereks geodesic healing dome, a composting display and an exhibition of low tech items such as clockwork radios and recycled household goods, there were a series of events based around the stalls which included musical instrument making from junk, childrens art activities, drumming workshops, story telling sessions and a circle dancing display (and mulberry tree climbing, though that wasnt on the schedule...)
Despite somewhat chaotic publicity, the hard work put in by so many people more than paid off and the day was a great success. The LETS/Permaculture/ESN area got likened by more than one person to a mini Glastonbury, lots of links and connections were made, and most importantly, people enjoyed themselves!
